CDP News: 1 September 2017
Welcome to this week’s edition of CDP News! We like to use this space to review recent happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, while also looking ahead to upcoming events. It’s only the first of September, but it’s already starting to feel like autumn here at CDP headquarters.
Next week will be a short one due to the Labor Day holiday on Monday, but we’ve still got a great event to talk about. Wednesday will feature the first of our weekly webinars throughout September intended to spotlight suicide awareness. To help bring attention to this important topic, CDP will be teaming up with Cohen Veterans Network and outside presenters to offer these 90-mintue webinars. All participants who attend and successfully complete a post-training survey/evaluation will be eligible to receive one free CE credit for each webinar. The specific topics of the webinars are as follows. The first event on 6 September will be entitled “Veteran Suicide Data and VA Prevention Programs”. Then on 13 September, we’ll have “Suicide Risk Assessment.” 20 September will feature “The Safety Planning Intervention for Reducing Suicide Risk.” Finally, on 27 September, we will present “Means Restriction and Talking to Suicidal Veterans About Firearms.” All of the webinars will be presented from noon to 1:30 p.m. Eastern via Adobe Connect.
We’ve got other online events coming up as well. Our next online EBP event will be a Cognitive Processing Training event on 19-20 September. This CPT event will be presented via Zoom. You can find more info on the Zoom platform on our online training page here. We just recently opened registration for a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Depression (CBT-D) training that will be held via Second Life on 12-13 October. All our currently scheduled events can be found on our upcoming training calendar. If you would like to be notified when registration begins for any upcoming online event, you can sign up by completing the form here.
This week’s Staff Perspective in the CDP blog was by Josh Gray and was entitled “My client says marijuana helps with PTSD symptoms. That can’t be the case…right?”. In it, he takes a look at the use of marijuana to relieve PTSD symptoms. This is a topic that’s getting a lot of attention lately, so take a look if you haven’t already.
With that, we’re going to wrap up this week’s CDP News. We hope everyone has a good long holiday weekend. Fall is coming fast so, take the opportunity to enjoy one more summer weekend while you can! We’ll be back next week recharged and ready to go, so come join us then.
