CDP News: 14 June 2019
Welcome to this week’s edition of CDP News! We like to use this space to review recent happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, while also looking ahead to upcoming events. We're already halfway through June, but we've still got lots more coming up this month!
We ran multiple PTSD-related events this week. Fist up, on Tuesday, we held a training on Assessing Military Clients for Trauma and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Then on Wednesday, it was time for the next part of our "Beyond PTSD"-themed series of webinars with "Trauma-Informed Intimate Partner Violence Treatement in Military and Veteran Populations." If you missed the live presentation of the event, we will be adding a recording of the webinar to our website soon. The next session in the series will be on 19 June, from noon to 1:30 p.m. Eastern, entitled "Helping Patients with PTSD-Related Nightmares". This webinar will dive beyond the traditional view of nightmares as merely a symptom and explore the relationship between PTSD and nightmares. It will provide clinicians a way to conceptualize PTSD-related nightmares and an overview of the various assessment and treatment options available. We will wrap up the series on 26 June with "Understanding and Managing Anger and Aggression in PTSD". As with most of our CDP Presents webinars, participants who register, attend, and complete a post-training survey/evaluation will be eligible to receive one free CE. Check out the registration pages for details on recognizing bodies and eligible disciplines.
Speaking of upcoming online training events, our online EBP workshops are filling up fast. The Prolonged Exposure (PE) course on 20-21 June is at capacity, but registration is available for our next iteration to the held on 25-26 September via Zoom. The Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) training on 21-22 August just filled up as well. We plan on holding another CPT training event before the end of the year, so keep an eye on our training calendar here or join our monthly email list by completing this form.
Next week registration will be closing for "Serving Student Veterans on Campus" via Zoom to be held on 25 June. This full-day core competency program is designed to address cultural and clinical concerns of Veterans and Service members on a university or college campus. The program presents a comprehensive overview of the experience of student Veterans and Service members, and includes challenges during deployment and reintegration on campus, campus outreach strategies, and culturally competent treatment approaches.
This week's Staff Perspective was by Dr. Diana Dolan on "Treating Post-Traumatic Nightmares." Dr. Dolan discusses a few options for treating this very common symptom of trauma. If you're insterested in the topic, you may also want to join us for the webinar on the topic next Wednesday as well. Also, don't forget to check out this week's Research Update. As always, it's packed with the latest news, journal articles and useful links from around the Web, with a special section on PTSD-focused section, as well.
That's it for this week's CDP News. We hope everyone enjoys the weather and has a good weekend. Make sure you come back on Monday for another "By the Numbers."
