CDP News: 21 June 2019

Welcome to this week’s edition of CDP News! We like to use this space to review recent happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, while also looking ahead to upcoming events. It's the first official day of summer, but we're not slowing down any!

It was another busy week here at the CDP. We continued our spotlight on PTSD Awareness Month with some great events. On Wednesday, we held our latest  CDP Presents webinar "Helping Patients with PTSD-Related Nightmares." We will wrap up the series this Wednesday with "Understanding and Managing Anger and Aggression in PTSD". As with most of our CDP Presents webinars, participants who register, attend, and complete a post-training survey/evaluation will be eligible to receive one free CE. Check out the registration page for details on recognizing bodies and eligible disciplines. If you've missed out on any of the previous events, we'll have recordings available for on-demand viewing on our archived webinars page here.

Then on Thursday and Friday, we held an online Prolonged Exposure (PE) course in Second Life. It was a packed event and we were excited to have another training in Second Life. If you're interested in PE training, we've got another session coming up on 25-26 September via Zoom

We'll be closing sign-ups for next week's "Serving Student Veterans on Campus" via Zoom to be held on Tuesday. This full-day core competency program is designed to address cultural and clinical concerns of Veterans and Service members on a university or college campus. The program presents a comprehensive overview of the experience of student Veterans and Service members, and includes challenges during deployment and reintegration on campus, campus outreach strategies, and culturally competent treatment approaches. This day-long training is $30 and comes with seven CE units.

Registration is also ongoing for the online Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) via Zoom on 30-31 July. We're going to be adding even more events coming up this fall, so keep an eye on our training calendar here or join our monthly email list by completing this form

This week's Staff Perspective was by Laura Copland "Addressing Anger in PTSD Treatment." Anger is a very common symptom in PTSD. This blog takes a look at using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to deal with this anger. As mentioned before, we'll also be offering a webinar on the topic next Wednesday as well. Also, don't forget to check out this week's Research Update. As always, it's packed with the latest news, journal articles and useful links from around the Web, with a special section on PTSD-focused section, as well.

With that, we're going to wrap up this week's edition of CDP News. We hope everyone has a great weekend and enjoys the summer weather. We'll see you again on Monday for a new entry in our "By the Numbers" series.
