Staff Perspective: Online Training Opportunities
We all know the necessity of learning new things and professional development. However, it can be difficult to carve out time in one’s busy schedule to attend training, especially when that training may include the travel and other expenses. The Center for Deployment Psychology understands the constraints many behavioral health providers find themselves under when trying to find time to attend live training events. To help with this, CDP has been making an increasing effort to provide a wealth of opportunities for online training.
Many people roll their eyes when they think of “online training.” Most of us have our fair share of bad experiences with online training, whether it was a mandatory HR training at a workplace or jerky video we struggled to get through. CDP has spent the past few years working to provide the same high-quality, highly-regarded training we provide in face-to-face situations, also in an online environment. These online sessions use the same materials and presenters as in our face-to-face events. In addition to reaching a wider audience, in a more convenient fashion, our online training events allow you to interact fellow participants and ask questions directly to the presenters (without even needing to wait for a break).
We offer events on multiple platforms to accommodate participants with a range of comfort levels with technology. Zoom and Adobe Connect are traditional teleconferencing software options. Participants only need an Internet-connected computer with a web browser and speakers/headphones to join in. For the more advanced/adventurous, we also offer two-day training events in Second Life, a persistent online world where the CDP has created a virtual education center and many other learning environments.
If you’re interested in checking out CDP’s online training opportunities, it’s easy to get started! We offer multiple events nearly every month. These events include a free hour-and-a-half webinar, CDP Presents, on a variety of topics, including internal and external subject matter experts. We also offer a two-day training in one of our evidence-based psychotherapies (EBPs) each month.
In September, we’re going to be offering one free webinar every week, as part of our suicide prevention spotlight. These free webinars are a great opportunity to test out our online training. Best of all, most of these online events include continuing education (CE) credits for a variety of behavioral health providers.
If you’ve ever wanted to attend a CDP training, but weren’t able, we highly suggest registering and taking one of our online events. We think you’ll find it’s a great way to increase your knowledge, interact with your peers, and maybe increase your technological horizons all at the same time. You can check out all our currently scheduled online events on our Upcoming Training Calendar here. We hope to virtually “see” you soon!
